The old red pick-up gently rumbled into the rather empty parking lot of the small diner in town. The vehicle drove to the side of the building by the dumpsters, so as not to be seen by many customers. The blonde behind the wheel reached across the stained and torn console to the black waitress apron in the passenger seat. She grabbed it with a quiet sigh and stepped out of the dead vehicle. Her black worn tennis shoes covered her feet, and she wore black jeans that fit tightly around her small, almost unhealthy waist. She tied the apron around her, just above her cheap belt. The red and black polo shirt of the restaurant's logo was tucked in. At least, she didn't have to wear the stupid looking ball cap to go along with it. The woman ran a hand through her straight, thinning hair, as she swung her purse over she shoulder and shut the door. She trekked across to the side metal door and entered the building. People who liked an early lunch would be arriving soon. The woman's pale blue eyes darted to the cook, as she turned to the clipboard hanging on the wall and put a check mark by her name. She then headed towards the front counter and stuffed her purse on a shelf underneath the counter top. On early days like this, she worked the register and waited tables. Especially when the cafe was barely alive. She swallowed tightly, just glad that the manager, or owner, or whatever he was, hadn't showed up today. As she pulled out a key and unlocked the register, thoughts of Doc entered her mind. He seemed like he was very happy here. And, the equestrian center was very nice. Blair never imagined herself being able to afford to keep a horse in such a nice facility. But now that she could, she didn't want to mess it up. Truthfully, she hated working here, but she couldn't do much else. Not yet anyway. Money was the top priority on her list, and she needed a job in order to have it. Hearing a dinging of a bell, the blonde looked up, to see who had just entered the building.

An old white Ford with rust everywhere and the trailer that looked pretty much the same pulled into White Bison, Colorado as the three passangers pretty much just looked forward not saying a word to each other. Devon saw many looks toward the white Ford, but he didn't care to much. He loved this truck more than anything or well atleast it came into third as his daughter Roxie has his heart first. The trailer behind him looked like an old rust bucket, but it worked as it had somewhere for his tack and plus he had a nice new one, but he didn't need it so he sold it and they used the money to come here to White Bison. His ten year old daughter wasn't the happiest girl in the world when he told her they was moving, but he felt like he needed to get out of that town. To many memories and plus they had no one else there other than his brother's and sisters.
Devon looked across to his daughter and put a smile on his face as he looked around the town. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. He said, but all he got was a slight look and a nod. Max his border collie sat in the middle on the white Ford and began to pant alittle as he was looking around town. He couldn't put the dog in the back as their clothes and many other things was in the back aswell as the horse trailer. Maybe it was smart of him to being the stock trailer. He had the two horse's loaded in the back and their beds laoded in the front of the trailer. He got off subject as he came to a stop at what seemed like the only stop light in town.Well Roxie are you hungry? We can go get outselfs a bite to eat before we take the horse's down to the barn. He said, but got a slight okay to come out of her.
He put the truck into first and off the went to what seemed like the only place in town that had a cafe'. He turned his blinker on and the way they went into the parking lot of the Pizzeria. He grinned as he found a couple parking spaces for the truck and trailer and shut it off. Alright, Max. You stay here and we will bring you some leftovers. He grinned and stepped out of the white ford truck. As his daughter Roxie was already out and at the driverside. He pulled his black stetson out and placed it ontop of his head and grinned. Roxie began walking toward the front door with Devon right behind her.
When Roxie opened the door there was a slight jingle overhead and Roxie looked up to find where the sound had came from. Devon held the door open so it wouldn't close on him as he pushed Roxie inside alittle more so he could shut the door behind him. Roxie just turned toward the smell of pizza and a smile came on her face. Devon looked around as he stepped in. He was wearing a pair of faded blue jeans, dirty cowboy boots, long sleeve shirt and ofcourse a black stetson felt on his head. He looked down at Roxie as she began to walk forward, but Devon caught her.Wait a second, I don't know if we seat ourselfs or wait.He said as he looked around and then noticed a blonde lady standing behind the counter.Hello Ma'ma, do we seat ourselfs? He asked to the blonde lady.

Her pale blue eyes had watched a small girl enter first. A bitter sweet smile caught the woman's thin lips. She couldn't help but reminisce of when she was that age. Hopefully, this poor girl wasn't going through what she had too. Blair would never wish it on anybody, even though some people would call her a selfish person at times. But, when the going got tough, she had no other choice but to be as well. Her eyes shifted to the tall drink of water that walked in behind the girl. Cowboy. The word was written all over him. From his hat, down to his muddy boots. The woman looked down at her register and quickly closed it. She reached for two laminated menus, as she heard the man's voice speak up, obviously directed to her, " Sit where ya like," she replied with a small smirk. She held the menus close to stomach and grabbed two napkins with silverware wrapped in them from a basket on the counter top. She lightly shook her head, waiting to follow the pair to take a seat so she could serve them. She casted a glance out the window, and saw the truck, and trailer that was no doubt theirs. Her mind wondered with curiosity of what brought them here, in that pile of junk. But then, she had no room to talk. Her vehicle was apparently so hideous she had to park it out of sight. Turning back to the man, she swallowed. There was no longer any doubt in her mind that he was a single father.

Long blonde hair swift around her as she looked around the little cafe' as blue eye's shifted around the room as she finaly found a seat. She skipped toward the booth chair in the corner. It was quite big, but before Roxie could sit down. Devon grabbed her shoulder and made her sit at a smaller booth. Roxie, that is quite big for us. There might be a large family that comes in and wants to sit there. He sat as he sat down in one of the booth seats as seh sat across from him with her elbows on the table, but it didn't take long for Devon to flick her elbows with his middle finger for her to get her elbows off the table.Daddy, do you think shotgun is gonna like it here? I mean it's quite different from Wyoming.
Ruff hands went to the black stetson hat as he placed it on it's top on the booth seat beside him closer to the window. He followed the girl's blue eyed gave and grinned.I'm pretty sure both you and shotgun will be fine here. There is nothing better than a new start in life.He said and then looked at his hands and rubbed them together. His own blue eyes watched the only waitress here and she looked every out of place in a pizzira where high school students with acne would be working at earning money for gas money. Devon looked over to Roxie and smiled toward her. What are you thinking about getting for lunch? He asked nicely as he placed his hands in his lap.
Roxie's eyes drifted away from the window from looking at the rickty old truck and trailer to her father's smile. Which she couldn't help but to smile back at him. She loved him very much and he had been through a lot more than she had. Yah, having your mother runaway because she didn't want to take care of a cripled the rest of her life kind of hurt, but she loved him more than anything.Anything really yummy Dad, I'm been starving since Wyoming. She siad with alittle twang in her voice and then looked at the women who would be serving them today. She planted a smile on her face and blue eyes shone.Hey, I'm Roxie...We are new here.Roxie said as she shone with pride, as she looked from her father up to the women. Devon looked up to the young lady and couldn't help but smile.

The rather skinny woman waited patiently, rocking back on the heels of her worn sneakers, and rolling to the toe subtly. She pulled out a clean wash rag from the side of her black apron and quickly wiped down a nearby table, as it seemed the father and daughter weren't quite settled in yet, and she didn't want to make them feel rushed. She also had no problem listening in on parts of the conversation the pair was having. Wyoming? That was a ways from Colorado. She smirked to herself, she probably could have guessed that, just by the man's attire. Though Texas would have been her first guess, but he didn't have a southern twang accent. What was it? A northern one? Ha. If there were such a thing, but every state had it's country. And every state had it's own 'hick' accent. When they seemed settled in enough, Blair approached them and laid a laminated menu in front of each, and rested the wrapped silverware beside it. She heard the girl speak, and glanced down at her, a small smile coming to her face, " I'm Blair," she said, her gaze drifting to both of them. She gave one quiet laugh, hearing they were new in town, "I gathered that much. Word gets around pretty fast in these parts," she explained, as she now took a subtle step back and pulled out a small writing tablet and pen. She jotted down the table number, even though they were the only customers at the moment, the manager had a peculiar way of doing things, " What would y'all like to drink?" she asked with a half smirk. The blonde swallowed lightly, ready to take down the orders. She heard the sound of a door slam faintly in the back and lightly tensed her shoulders, before quickly relaxing them again, forcing herself to refocus.

Roxie let a grin form across her face as her blue eyes went to the menu that laid infront of her. She looked over the menu and smiled and then looked up to the lady named Blair.Miss Blair, I'd like a Dr. Pepper please. She said with a grin as her eyes went back to the menu while she looked at what she might want to eat. Devon looked over to Roxie as she used "Miss Blair" to address the women. He wanted to shake his head "no" to his daughter, but she used the word "please" like she had been taught to.I'd just take a sweet ice tea, please. He told to the beautiful blonde haired beauty. He was thirty-one and knew he shouldn't be looking at any women expecial after what his ex-wife did after his acident.
Devon looked down at the menu that was placed infront of him and with his right hand began to take the wrapper that kept the napkin around the silverware off. He played with his hands as his daughter did the same with her's.Father like daughter is what you could say about these two. If Devon did something he was to be sure that Roxie was right behind him to do the samething. Roxie grinned as she looked up to her father.Paw, I think I want a kid's meatlover's pizza.,she grinned knowing her father hated being called "Paw", but she liked how to rolled off her tounge so at times she used it. Devon looked up at her and just smile instead of telling her not to call him "Paw".Well that sounds good, how about we get a small meatlover's and share? He chuckled with the little girl's head bobbed up and down agreeing with his idea. Devon kept on playing with his peice of paper while Roxie looked out the window taking in White Bison while they waited for their drinks to come.

The blonde smiled small and jotted down the girl's order for a drink. She just shrugged the title off. The kid was treating with respect that she would have for a teacher. Blair actually liked children, more than she would lead on to. If she could do life over, maybe she would be a teacher, or a doctor, or a famous barrel racer or... hmf.. dreamers... that was all she was now. The waitress glanced over as the cowboy spoke, gaining enough confidence to keep her eyes on him for a little longer this time. He was kinda cute... well, really cute. But, that didn't really mean anything right now. She glanced down and once again scribbled his drink onto the lined paper, " Okay," she said with a nod, then pulled a wide grin on her lips, " I'll have these right out," she promised, and turned on her heel. The woman walked towards the kitchen in the back, her straight hair flowing behind her. Her gaze shifted to the cook, and by the look she got, she knew her suspicions had been right. Blair swallowed and grabbed two of the large plastic glasses from a stack, one clear, and one red. She filled them both with ice, and placed the red one under the soda pop fountain, and the clear one under the sweet tea spout. The blonde then grabbed each in hand as she quickly walked back out into the dining area, relieved she was fast enough to run into him. As she approached the table, she caught a tail end of the conversation, but didn't say anything, " Alright, we have one Dr. Pepper, and one sweet tea," she said, resting the drinks in front of them, and pulled out two wrapped straws from her apron and set them on the table as well, " Okay," she said with a small sigh, " Are you ready to order?" she asked, once again having the paper and pen in hand.

Devon's blue eyes watched as the lady named Blair walked away going into the kitchen. He smile alittle bit, but then he noticed another set of eyes was watching him.Daddy, It's not polite to stare. Remember? She said with a serious face on her face. Her father always told her not stare a people and here he was staring at Blair who was their waitress and it wasn't nice, but she wasn't going to annonce it to the world. Maybe Blair would get angry at her father for staring and ofcourse Roxie had a mean streak in her and would defend her father any chance she could get. Roxie played with napkin as she pulled the silverware out and placed them on the table.
Devon couldn't help but grin at his daughter. You are right, it's not nice and I'm sorry. He should probley watch what he does around his daughter as whatever he caught her doing something unpropetie or being alittle annoying he would tell her and then if she caught him doing the same she would remeind him of it. Devon closed his blue eyes and then opened then once again as his little girl asked a question.Daddy, do you think I'll make new friends here? Cassidy's mother said I would, but then again she said it would be hard at first. He knew taking his daughter away from the only home she knew was going to be hard on her, but they had no life in Wyoming and it seemed like Wyoming just spoke of the past and he was tired of living in the past and being reminded about it everytime he went into Cheyenne to get some grocies for him and Roxie.
Devon scooted his hands back so that Blair the beautiful blonde could put his drink drown without having to be in the way. Roxie eye's went huge when she saw the tall glass that held the amazing engery drink that kept her wired for hours. Roxie rubbed her hands together and licked her lips. She waited for Blair to put it down befor she grabbed it and took a big drink.Roxie... and that was all Devon had to say for the girl to put the drink down and swallow what she had. She put her head down alittle and her hands in her lap. Devon looked up to the blonde and grinned.I think we are going to share a small meatlovers pan tossed pizza, and also could you bring us some of those breadsticks? He said with a grin as Roxie's head lifted up and grinned. She loved the breadsticks as she would dip them in ranch and eat them.

Blair smiled small, her orbs drifting from the girl, to the cowboy. She jotted down what he said to order, and looked over as the blonde child smiled at the mention of breadsticks, " You got it, I'll have 'em add cheese, no extra charge," she replied with a small side smile, " If y'all would like that," she added as she gathered the menus back up in her arms to get them out of the way, " So, where are you folks from?" she asked, even though she had overheard them talk, she didn't want to seem like a nosy eavesdropper or anything. She casted a casual look over her shoulder, saw the shadow of a man walk past the door frame of the kitchen. He was lurking around, watching her every move, just like he did with all of the employees. But the more time Blair spent out here, acting like she was making these two feel more welcome and probably assuring them as long time customers, the less time she had to spend back there with him. Unless he left early and went back to that wife of his. Blair wouldn't comment about them as a couple. It wasn't like her to spread gossip or rumors about anybody. That was what got people in trouble, and in a small town like this, who could really afford it?

Blue eyes looked across the table at the mention of extra cheese on the breadsticks for the two and watched as Roxie shook her head "yes" to the extra cheese part.Yes Ma'ma, we would like to have extra cheese. He grinned as his daughter gave him a thumbs up. Sometimes he wonder where she got her sillness from because Devon was never silly as a child. He never had the time to have fun or ever laugh. Maybe she got it from her mother, or her runaway mother. Roxie looked so much like her mother that it hurt at times to even look at his own daughter, but he would never give her away. He loved her to much to just leave her on the curd like his ex-wife did to the both of them. He shook his head alittle to get those thoughts out of his brain. He was happy with just the two of them and it seemed to work for the both of them.
Devon's blue eyes glanced up to the women as she asked where they was from, but before he could even speak Roxie's lips came away from the glass and spoke for him.Wy-om-ing, she said with a giggle as she looked up to the lady as she had alittle bit of a southern/northern accent. It sounded more like her father's voice when she said it. Roxie looked up to the women and looked around the cafe'. Would you like to sit and talk with us? Roxie asked but then felt a little kick by her father's boot hit her shin with a light tap and Roxie hands went down and rubbed her shin. What was that for dad? There isn't no one else in the cafe' and plus it would be quite boring just talking to you.She said with a slight grin. Roxie had alittle bit of a tease in eyes as she looked up to the women. Devon shook his head at his daughter as he felt quite embarassa of his daughter at times, but what could he say not to be rude to the lady about how she had to work and how busy she was to sit and eat with them, but really it wasn't busy at all.I guess you invited to sit and eat with us. Don't worry I'll pay for your share too.He said with a slight grin toward the women named Blair.
